Our Story
We started Abney & Baker because we saw what happens when care comes too late. We believe in keeping people strong, not just keeping them comfortable.
A Different Kind of Care
The home care industry is broken. It's built around crisis management, stepping in only when someone is already frail, falling, or struggling to cope. Carers are rushed, visits are too short, and the focus is purely on doing things for people, rather than helping them keep the ability to do things for themselves.
Our founder, Ian, started Abney & Baker to change this. Our focus is on preventative care. By stepping in earlier and working through our Five Pillars (Physical, Cognitive, Nutrition, Social, and Home Safety), we actively help our clients stay independent for longer.
The Dual Heart
Our logo is a dual heart. It represents the two people at the center of everything we do: the client receiving the care, and the family member who loves them.
We know that when a parent starts to struggle, you don't just need a carer for them. You need peace of mind for yourself. You want to stop worrying at midnight. You want to go back to being a daughter or son, not a care manager. The dual heart means we look after you both.
Our Values
Proactive, not Reactive
We don't wait for things to go wrong. We build strength and resilience early.
Doing with, not for
We do things with our clients, not just for them.
Transparent
Honest advice, clear pricing, and open communication with families.
Valuing our Carers
We pay well, train extensively, and give our team the time they need to care properly.
A framework for living well at home, not just getting by in it.
Every Abney & Baker care plan is built around these five pillars — how we measure success, how we work with you to structure your care and support, and how we know when someone is genuinely thriving, not simply surviving.
Physical health
Improving strength, balance and mobility to reduce the risk of falls and injuries.
Cognitive health
Keeping the mind active and engaged to protect memory and mental agility.
Nutrition
Supporting healthy eating and hydration to boost energy and wellbeing.
Social & emotional wellbeing
Helping you stay connected, confident and involved in your community.
Home safety
Reducing hazards to make the home safer and easier to live in.
